The Florida Gators football team is the official football team of the University of Florida. The Florida Gators compete in various divisions such as the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The team’s home games is usually played in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium which is often referred to as “The Swamp” on the university’s Gainesville, Florida campus.

In terms of major honors, the Gators have won three national championships titles and eight SEC titles over the last 108-season of the varsity football program.

The Florida Gators’ home kit has always been blue jerseys with white pants for much of the program’s history with Orange jerseys also used periodically. The change in their jersey happened before an home game during the 1979 season, when the Gators switched to wearing orange jerseys.

Ten years later (1989), the team’s interim head coach Gary Darnell brought back the famous blue jerseys but now with orange pants for the season final game against Florida State. The color combo was later neglected until another season finale against Florida state during the 1999 season in Gainesville and then again in the 2013 season’s Sugar Bowl against Louisville.

After the appointment of Steve Spurrier as the team’s head coach in 1990, he restored the blue jerseys full-time. Since then, the blue jerseys with white pants has remained the team’s home kit, with blue pants an option in some high-profile games.

Over the years, Florida has worn many helmet designs throughout the program’s history. The helmet color has always been orange and white and (occasionally) blue with the UF logo. The Gators have also worn orange helmets with a script “Gators” logo.

The Gators current head coach is Jim McElwain who replaced Will Muschamp on December 4, 2014 after the 2014 regular season and bowl game. The former Alabama coordinator and Colorado State head coach, was unveiled as Muschamp’s successor after Will Muschamp’s departure.

In his first season with the Gators, he became the third coach in SEC history to qualify for the SEC championship game in his first year and also became the first Florida manager to win more than nine games in his first season as the Florida Gators coach, finishing his first regular season with a 10-2 record.

The Florida Gators football team’s fight song is “The Orange and Blue”. The song is often played during football games and other Florida Gators athletic contests to show support for the teams. The Gators’ primary rivals is Georgia Bulldog who also compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
